MEET THE TIBETAN COMMUNITY

Tibetan Community
Tibetan Association of the Czech Republic was established by Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay, President of Central Tibetan Administration in 2018. Eventhough the Czech Tibetan community is very small, support for Tibet here is very strong, thanks to the legacy of former president Václav Havel and his friendship with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. There are around 10 Tibetans and 7 Tibetan children living here.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the highest spiritual leader of Tibet, and considered a living buddha. His Holiness is a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize awarded in 1989, and the US Congressional Gold Medal in 2006.

Václav Havel Legacy
The special friendship bond between president Václav Havel and His Holiness the Dalai Lama was born from the emergence of freedom in post-communist Czechoslovakia. Václav Havel was the first head of state, who invited His Holiness for the official visit and did it in the first year of his presidence. Many important world leaders soon followed his example. His Holiness has visited Czech Republic many times since. More information www.vaclavhavel.cz
